SUZY, SUZY, WHAT DO YOU SEE? (game)
During the first week of school read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear", then try this game. Sit in a circle,
teacher says, "Mrs. R, Mrs. R. who do you see? I see Suzy looking at me." and rolls a ball to
Suzy. Suzy then chooses someone to roll ball to. We help with the names at the beginning but
the children learn the names quickly. We say "Suzy, Suzy who do you see?" Child responds,
"I see _______ looking at me." and rolls ball to that child. Continue until everyone
has had a turn.
Clean up,
Clean up,
Everybody, Everywhere.
Clean up,
Clean up,
Everybody do their share.
Sally writes:
When the children in my daycare sing this song they seem to pick up the toys and put things
where they belong in a much better mood. I like it because even my not yet two year olds try
to sing it too and the children sing it at home as well.

GIVE ME FIVE (getting student's attention)
Eyes are watching
Ears are listening
Mouth is quiet
Hands are to myself
Hearts are caring
Sally writes:
Hold up 1 finger as you say each rule. You'll soon find your students reciting these with you.

I AM
(Tune: “Frere Jacques”)
I am __________,
I am __________,
That’s my name,
That’s my name,
I am glad to be here,
I am glad to be here,
At school today,
At school today.
SEPTEMBER COLORS
Remember September,
The colors that glow,
Look for the colors
Wherever you go.
Red is for sunset,
Blue is for sky.
Green is for grass
Growing brown by and by.
Yellow’s for starlight.
Orange is for moon.
Purple’s for oak leaves,
Coming down soon.
Golden trees shiver.
Silver trees bend
Gray days are coming,
Or so says the wind.
So remember September,
The colors that glow,
Look for the colors
Wherever you go.
T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS
By Ron Yorgason
T’was the night before school starts
And all through the place,
Not a smile was seen
On any kid’s face.
Our bags were all stuffed
With our notebooks brand new,
And rulers and pencils
With erasers to chew.
Mournfully we
All crawled into bed,
Knowing too well
That the ‘good life’ was dead.
Then mom came in whistling
And kissed us goodnight,
With a bright cheery voice
That didn’t seem right.
The night dragged on slowly
I just couldn’t sleep,
For fear that my math teacher
Would be a real creep.
Or maybe a bully
Would give a shove,
Or even more evil things
Than I could think of.
When from in the next room
There arose such a clummer,
My mom yelled,”I’m FREE!”
“I’m free ‘til next summer!”
This must be a plot
By conspiring moms,
Who just want a break
To experience ‘calm.’
Oh, must I go through it?
How can I go on?
I want to escape
Run off to Saigon!
Nine months is too long
To suffer through school
The classes so rough
And teachers who’re cruel.
“Come Donald! Come Conner!
Come Henry VanStation!
Come up to the board,
Do your multiplication!”
“And Julie, stop talking!
And Jimmy, wake up!
And, Mary,right now,
Don’t do your makeup!”
Teachers ever are hounding
They just never quit.
You do something wrong,
They go into a fit.
And so every year
About this same time,
I lie in bed sleepless
And just moan and whine.
Until morning comes,
And I hear my mom say,
“Good luck with your school!
And have a nice day!”
WELCOME
by Amy Tevelthuis
Welcome, children, I’m glad you’re here.
We’re going to have a wonderful year!
We’ll draw and we’ll write,
We’ll sing and we’ll play,
We’ll paint and we’ll build,
And learn new things each day!
WHERE IS....
(Tune: “Frere Jacques”)
Where is _______________,
Where is _______________,
Here I am, here I am,
How are you today _______________?
Very well thank-you.
Yes, indeed, yes indeed.

HEY, HEY, WHO'S IN TOWN?
Hey, Hey, Who's in Town?
Everybody look around.
Say your name and when you do
We will say it back to you! (point to a student, they say their name, the class then says "Hello _____" and start again until everyone has a turn)
*find a clapping beat to go with the words*
Great for getting to know names and having some fun.
