APPLE PRINTS
Materials: foam meat trays or plates; undiluted liquid red, green, and yellow tempera
paint; apples cut in halves; white construction paper.
DIRECTIONS:
Pour paint into trays or plates.
Dip apple (flat surface down) into paint tray.
Press to construction paper.
Repeat to make a pleasing design.

WATERCOLOR APPLES
Materials: Watercolors; paint brushes; construction paper; scissors; glue.
DIRECTIONS:
Paint shades of watercolors all over one sheet of construction paper.
Let dry overnight.
Cut or tear apple shapes from the watercolor paper.
Glue the shapes to a sheet of construction paper (a contrasting color is especially effective.

One thing I do with apples is use an apple
corer and then cut the core in half to expose the "star" and then use that as
a stamper in tempera paint to put stars on either an apple cutout or an apple

SEED PICTURES
Materials: Apple seeds as well as other seeds; paper; glue
DIRECTIONS:
Give each student a small amount of seeds. Discuss the seeds' similarities and
differences. Allow students to glue seeds onto paper to create pictures.

SHAKERS
Materials: Apple Seeds; paper plates (2 per child); glue or stapler; crayons or markers
DIRECTIONS:
Allow children to decorate plates with crayons or markers. After this, the seeds
can be placed between the paper plates. Staple or glue the two plates together by
securing the outer edges of the plates.

APPLE TREE
Materials: Brown construction paper; paste; manila paper; sponge; green and red
tempera paint; crayons
DIRECTIONS:
Tear construction paper for the tree trunk and paste onto manila paper. Dip a
small sponge in green paint and make prints for leaves. Dip index finger in red paint
and make prints for apples on the tree. Using crayons, you may draw Johnny Appleseed with
his animal friends.

APPLESEED PRINTS

Draw a picture of an apple or make copies of apple coloring sheet. Allow children to dip fingers
into brown fingerpaint, dab fingerprints onto the apple picture. Little fingerprints make
perfect little appleseeds.
Also: Appleseeds can also be used for counting. Makes a good activity for the manipulative center.

APPLE TREE ARM
Paint the childs forearm with brown paint to represent the trunk, paint their hand green
to represent the top of the tree and let dry. When it is dry have them dip their finger in
red paint or use a red ink pad and place little apples all over the tree. This is very fun and
the children love what the final result looks like, their very own apple tree!

APPLE BASKET
You need brown or black construction paper, Markers or crayons, scissors, glue, red, green and yellow construction paper.
Also newspaper. Depending on the age of the children they may need help with cutting. Have children or teacher cut of two
pieces of basket patterns, then children can color using markers or crayons their basket pattern. Make sure apple patterns are
cut out already. Children will choose what color apples they want. Take newspaper ball it up and stuff in basket. Glue apples
in basket. Add handles and you have apples in the basket.
continue: Fold pattern of basket and cut slits half of costruction paper for weaving. Children can choose what color they would
like to weave their basket. To prepare children for this activity you can teach them the finger play Apple Tree.
Also play the pretend game, Basket of Apples.
Have fun with this activity.

APPLE TREE
Materials Needed:
Brown paper lunch bag
rubber band
construction paper for what colored apples you want your tree to be
newspaper or something to wad up to fluff up the middle of the bag
1. Leave brown bag as is--cut slits down about 1/3 of the way.
2 Open up bag and stuff. Close up bag and rubber band it to create a trunk.
3. Twist the cut pieces of brown bag into branches.
4. Add leaves and your favorite color apples. (you could cut apples or tear them)
5. You have your finished tree. I always lay my class trees out on a bit floor map to show Johnny Appleseed's journey of his life. Then, I group them together at the end of the lesson to teach what an orchard is. I group different groups of trees together to show different orchards (all of the same kind.)
6. They can each take home a tree at the end of the lesson and re-tell their story to their family.

COLORED SAND APPLES
Materials Needed:
9 inch paper plate
razor blade
Contact Paper
Red,yellow,green,and brown colored Sand.
Hole punch
yarn to hang apple
Procedure:
Draw an apple shape with stem on front of paper plate. Cut out shape with straight edge razor blade.Punch a hole near the top of the plate and thread with yarn.
Cut a piece of contact paper large enough to cover the apple shape. Remove paper from contact paper and apply to back of paper plate.
Using spoons or shaker bottles have children apply colored sand of their choice to the sticky contact paper.
You can also use tissue paper or colored cellophane paper instead or colored sand.

STAIN GLASS APPLES
Make apple cutouts from construction paper. Cut out the center (to leave a "frame"). Spread glue on sheets of wax paper, slightly
larger than the apple paper. Add red, yellow and green tissue paper squares to waxed paper. Glue apple frame to waxed paper.
Dry overnight. Peel off waxed paper. Trim excess paper from the edges of the apples. Hang in the window or use on a
bulletin board.

SCENTED APPLES
Depending on age group,
Trace and cut out apple
or use paper plates.
Have the children paint their apple
red, yellow or green
Then have them sprinkle their apples with cinnamon.
They can be displayed on a tree or in a basket. The scent fills up the classroom.
